A permanent resident, while not a citizen, is given the status of a permanent resident by immigration. You will still remain a citizen of your home country. This status gives you access to most social benefits that Canadian citizens receive, including health care coverage. You can study, work, or live anywhere in Canada. You can also apply for your Canadian citizenship.

Most provinces in Canada have an agreement with the federal government to allow visa applicants to obtain permanent residency through provincial residency. If you are a student, business owner, or a skilled or semi-skilled worker, you might have a better chance of getting accepted through the Provincial Nominee Program.
A humanitarian visa application is considered as the last resort for applicants who may not be eligible to apply for a Canadian visa in any other category. But to be able to get accepted under this section, you will have to demonstrate undue hardship. You may then receive admission on compassionate and humanitarian grounds.
This selection system falls under the Provincial Nominee Program but is designed to select skilled workers who want to immigrate to Canada. If you have at least two years’ experience of full-time work in an eligible skilled trade, you can apply for permanent residency under express entry. You will either be nominated by the federal government or by potential employers looking for individuals with your particular skillset.
