Parents and Grandparents Sponsorship Issued by IRCC

Dear valued customers,

Here is the latest update about Parents & Grandparents sponsorship issued by IRCC. Please call us for any questions @ 780-457-2333

“Update on 2020 Parents and Grandparents Program Ottawa, December 30, 2019 — To ensure that Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has sufficient time to complete the development of a new intake process for the 2020 Parents and Grandparents Program, the reopening of the program will be postponed until Ministerial Instructions are issued. This means that the opportunity to express interest in sponsoring a parent or grandparent will not take place on January 1, 2020. Further information about the expected launch date and 2020 intake process will be available in the new year. This will give all interested sponsors the same opportunity to submit an interest to sponsor form and a fair chance to be invited to apply. We encourage all interested potential sponsors and stakeholders to stay up to date on the next Parents and Grandparents Program intake process by visiting IRCC’s website.“

Important Changes to Canadian Citizenship Rules

Important changes to Canadian citizenship rules, including how long a newcomer has to be in the country to be eligible, will take effect next week, ( October 11,) Immigration Minister Ahmed Hussen announced Wednesday, October 04, 2017 . The main changes are the following:

  • Physical presence in Canada is 3 years out of the last 5 years prior to application date
  • Only applicants from age 18-54 are required to write the test and provide the proof of language
  • Applicants to count half the time they have spent in Canada to a maximum of one year, meaning that once they become permanent residents, they would only need to be in the country for an additional two years to apply for citizenship 4-under implementation of Bill C-6. Permanent residents will now be allowed to go abroad to study, work or for family reasons for more than 183 days without losing access to citizenship eligibility.
